Okay, I've never seen these anywhere except Long Island, but they are my FAVORITE food in the WHOLE WORLD!!! :yum: :yum: :yum: At King Kullen, and most bakeries, they're called 'Rainbow Cookies,' but the recipie I use to make them calls them 'Venitians.'

They're almond-flavored layer cookies with chocolate on top, and a thin layer of jelly between the layers!! Each of the three layers is a different color-- usually, pink, yellow, and green. They're DELICIOUS!!! :yum: I used to get them at the bakeries there, but, since I don't live there anymore, I make my own! Very Happy

I love anything :p

actually my favorite sweet thing is the Arabic cakes, especially Knafe (I guess only those from Israel know what it is). If I try to explain what it's made of you'll all go "yuck" but it's the best thing you've ever tasted. Hint: it's made of goat cheese and thin noodles ...
The Knafe after the Falafel (fried balls made mostly of Chumos beans, in a pita bread)

I'll try to find a picture of it and post

it took me quite a while to find pictures, since the Baklawa (the Arab cookies) and Knafe (the Arab cake) are not found in every restaurant, only in the Arab quarters and shops.
But I did manage to find some:

Baklawa - the Arab cookies. They have honey coating and filled with different kinds of nuts. A page about them - http://www.mahroum-baklawa.com/products/baklawa.asp?id=1
Here are some pics:

The Knafe -

but you can't understand much from the pictures. There are even some recipes at that page - http://www.mahroum-baklawa.com/products/knafe.asp?id=1

ok now I really want to eat the rest of my Knafe from yesterday .... (the problem with it is that it's very sweet, so you either eat the whole portion really quick, or you eat half and heat the rest the next day)

all those 3 foods are made of the same thing - the chick peas (chummus is the dip version of them, the falafel is the fried dip version of it).

Falafel and Chummus are our national food
